Joomla 1.6 Alpha 2 Released For Download

Its the news every joomla user has been waiting for the release of Joomal 1.6. Joomla 1.6 beta was expected to be released by now but due to certain personal difficulties its the release of beta has been further delayed.Joomal 1.6 Alpha1 is a major upgrade from Joomla 1.5 framework with major changes to the j1.5 core the most famous being ACL and Nested Categories

Hello folks,

with great pride I am happy to announce that we just released Joomla! 1.6 Alpha2. We’ve invested a lot of energy into this release and made some pretty milestones, especially the proper implementation of the ACL  system. Now of course we wont rest with this and with your help we will soon be able to release a beta. Looking forward to your contributions to this
one. :-)

As with all non-stable releases, this is not for production use!

New improvements/features since alpha 1 include:

  1. ACL: access management for global permissions as well as content item specific permissions, variable usergroups, users. member of more than one usergroup, permissions are inherited, really fast.
  2. Extendable user profile, profile view in frontend, extendable user parameters.
  3. Tableless com_content layouts.
  4. Improved com_content modules (mod_articles_archive, mod_articles_latest, mod_articles_popular).
  5. Article linker plugin for editors.
  6. New frontend template (atomic).
  7. New backend template (bluestork).
  8. New uploader for media manager.

Other Joomla 1.6 improvements that existed in alpha 1:

  1. Mootools 1.2.
  2. Refactored backend.
  3. JForm.
  4. Nested Categories and category parameters.
  5. New views in frontend: categories, category.
  6. Lots of small code improvements, almost cut the code size in half while adding to the functionality.
  7. PHP 5.2 required,
  8. huge performance improvements,
  9. partially eaten up by new features => 1.6 will be faster than 1.5

What’s next?

After alpha 2, the Joomla community can expect a beta release. There are no intentions for a 3rd alpha release.You can also expect to see the following future improvements,Commenting solution is going to be added,Additional DB drivers,Lots of small performance/UI/code improvements
